UNDERSTAND

What does ‘breast screening’ mean?

Screening looks for possible signs of disease in people without symptoms. In community campaigns, it may include a clinical breast examination by a health professional. A screening result alone is not a diagnosis.

Depending on the campaign and clinical assessment, additional tests such as mammography or ultrasound may be offered. Not every event provides mammography, and additional tests are not necessarily free.

The exact type of screening, eligibility criteria and additional tests vary by country and campaign. Always contact the organiser for details.

Screening does not replace a medical consultation if you have symptoms or concerns. Seek assessment from a health professional without waiting for a screening campaign.
